COVID-19: Myths Related To Coronavirus Diseases

People all over the world are quarantined in their safe house to protect themselves and other from the deadly Coronavirus and therefore this is high time, for myths bubbles to pop out amongst the masses and create a level of fear and confusion amongst them. 

Therefore today, we are going to share some of the top myths related to Coronavirus Diseases. 

1. Coronavirus will spread in a humid and hot climate?

There is no such evidence which says that coronavirus does not spread in hot or humid climates.

COVID-19 has spread all over the areas around the world, including countries with Humid and hot weather. Example: At present, there are 709 corona positive cases in South Africa. 

If you are living in an area where the corona positive cases are there or if you have travelled to the countries with COVID-19 virus spread, you need to quarantine yourself immediately for at least 14 days. 

Wash your hand more frequently and appropriately covering all the possible areas with alcohol-based sanitizer, soap and water.

This will help to kill the viruses in your hands and will also help to spread it further. 

Also, avoid touching your nose, eyes, ears and mouth with your hands and use a tissue (throw it immediately after using) while sneezing or coughing. 

2. Snow or cold weather can’t kill new COVID-19.

There is no evidence that cold weather can kill COVID-19 or any other diseases. 

Mainly our body temperature remains 36.5* C to 37*C no matter what is the external weather or temperature. 

3. Does taking hot baths help to prevent Coronavirus?

No, taking hot baths is not going to help you fight the coronavirus.

As we mentioned before, no matter what is the outside temperature or weather your body temperature remains 36.5* C to 37*C. 

4. COVID-19 can spread through mosquito bites?

Till now there has been no evidence or information which proves that mosquito bites can spread or say transmit coronavirus. 

Coronavirus (COVID-19) attacks your respiratory organ and it directly transmitted through the droplets of an infected corona positive person.

When an infected person sneeze or cough, virus droplets of saliva discharged from your nose and that is how it gets transmitted to other people. 

5. Hand dryers can kill the coronavirus. 

It is better to remove this idea from your mind because hand dryers cannot kill 2019-nCoV. 

6. Ultraviolet disinfection lamp is helpful to kill the Coronavirus?

No, using UV lamps to disinfect or sterilize your hand or any skin area can lead to skin irritation. Therefore, using ultraviolet disinfection lamp will not help you fight coronavirus. 

7. How effective are the thermal scanners to detect corona positive people?

It is an effective tool to detect people who have a fever and a corona positive person has a much higher temperature than normal body temperature. The temperature is higher than usual because of the virus infection. 

8. Does cleaning your body with alcohol or with chlorine help to kill coronavirus?

The answer to this is simply, ‘NO.’ Once a virus has entered your body cleaning your body won’t help you, instead, this will harm your mucous membrane that is your mouth and eyes. 

However, alcohol and chlorine are useful to clean surface or to disinfect it but it should be used under proper recommendations. 

9. Is pneumonia vaccine is effective to fight coronavirus?

No medicines which are available for pneumonia treatment like Haemophilus influenza B (Hib) or pneumonia vaccine is helpful to kill coronavirus. 

10. If I rinse my nose with saline daily, will it help to prevent the new COVID-19 infection?

Till now, there is no evidence that daily cleaning your nose with saline can protect you from coronavirus. 

11. Is garlic effective to prevent new COVID-19?

Though there is no evidence that garlic protects against coronavirus outbreak but it surely has powerful antimicrobial properties, which is beneficial in general. 

12. Only old people get affected by Corona Virus or few young people get affected by new COVID-19. 

This virus can attack people of all ages, is just people with a weak immunity (older people have much weaker immunity compared to young people) and people with past or present medical history of diabetes, heart diseases and asthma are more likely to get infected from coronavirus and become severely ill. 

13. Do antibiotics help to prevent from new COVID-19?

Antibiotics are effective to fight bacteria, not viruses. And the new COVID-19 is a virus, and therefore using antibiotics should not be used to treat coronavirus

However, if you get hospitalized due to Coronavirus, you might get antibiotics; bacterial co-infection is possible. 

14. Is there any particular medicine or vaccine available to treat coronavirus? 

So far, no treatment has been found or developed to treat coronavirus completely. There are some of the treatments which are going under investigation and clinical trial to fight the coronavirus. 

And people who have been hospitalized should get proper care to get rid of symptoms. And people with a severe condition should get optimum supportive care. 

More questions have been answered by many medical experts on television and other media platforms.
