5 MUST HAVE WINTER FOODS TO BOOST IMMUNITY!

Winter is the season where the chances of getting ill increase tremendously. If you are not taking essential nutrients and foods that are helpful to protect you against health issues, you are prone to get sick during winters.

The reason it is good to add these winter foods to your diet is that if your immunity is weak, you need to add foods that help to improve immunity.

Winters come along with so many essential nutrients and dense foods that you should include in your day-to-day meals. It is far better to have some winter Special foods instead of drinking caffeinated drinks all day. 

Vegetables and fruits that are seasonal and especially foods that are rich in vitamin C are filled with nourishment. So, it is time to add these five amazing winter foods to your everyday meals.

Therefore, today we will discuss some of the winter special foods shared by celebrity nutritionist Rujuta Diwekar. 

Must-have foods for the winter season:

1. Sugarcane:

Sugarcane is one of the traditional detox foods. Sugarcane is helpful to get glowing skin, to rejuvenate your liver and therefore you should have sugarcane during winters. You can also have sugarcane juice in the winter. If you want to lose weight, you should have sugarcane or sugarcane juice because it helps to improve the metabolism rate of your body that further helps in the weight loss process. This fiber-rich sugarcane is good for the weight loss process.

2. Tamarind or Chincha:

According to the celebrity nutritionist, Rujuta Diwekar, tamarind is excellent for digestion. If you want, you can also use tamarind seeds (after smashing these seeds) in the buttermilk to enhance the taste. 

3. Ber:

Ber is great for you if you want to prevent children from getting sick frequently in the winters. Ber is also helpful in improving the immune system. Adding different varieties of healthy foods also improves your nutrition intake. You can also have ber as a snack or have it with a fruit salad bowl. The powerful antioxidants in ber and vitamin C not only improve your skin but also help to prevent you from free radicals and cell damage.

4. Amla:

If we are talking about must-have winter foods, how can we forget about amla? Amla is also known as Indian gooseberry and you can say that this is one of the best foods to have in winters. If you want, you can also consume amla in the form of chyawanprash or prepare moramba or sherbet to prevent infections. 

5. Til and Gur:

This is one of the popular winter snacks to get those essential fats and to improve your joints and bone health. Therefore, there is a day (14th January) to this delicacy where most of the Indian households prepare and share laddoo and gajak made from roasted sesame seeds and jaggery. 

The celebrity nutritionist also shared some of the amazing and simple tips to lose weight, like:

  1. Afternoon nap: Sleeping in the afternoon for some time helps in the weight loss process. A good quality sleep accelerates your fat loss process. 
  2. Do not over-exercise: Overexercise is not going to help you lose weight quickly, but what happens is completely opposite. Overexercising makes it difficult to lose weight, and it is good to add two in a week where you do easy workouts like stretching, cycling, dancing and swimming. 
  3. Healthy fats are important: Healthy fats like peanuts and coconut and til to your day-to-day meals in winters. You can prepare ladoo and gajak to prepare some of the healthy snacks in the winter. 

According to Rujuta Diwekar, the best way to keep your health in check is to have more homemade meals and to spend less time on the phone.  

It is better to have home-cooked delicious upma with grated paneer or cheese on top instead of buying those packed packets that claim to be healthy but actually unhealthy.
