Foods That Increase Uric Acid Levels – Risk Factors & Its Treatment!

Uric acid is nothing but a waste product that is found in your blood. Uric acid is produced when your body breaks down a chemical known as purines. 

As we mentioned that uric acid is a waste product, our bodies pass the uric acids in the form of urine through the bloodstream with the help of our kidneys. 

Therefore, it is better to not consume drinks and foods that are high in uric acids like red meat, beer, alcohol, organ meat (liver), seafood (sardines, salmon, lobster and shrimp), high fructose drinks or syrups like corn syrups. 

If your body is unable to pass the uric acid, this can cause hyperuricemia that can further cause arthritis, which is extremely painful. 

When the uric acid is high, this forms crystals of uric acid that settle in the joints and result in gout problems or cause kidney stones problems. 

The treatment of high uric acid levels is essential because if a person does not get the proper treatment, this can cause permanent tissue damage, heart diseases, permanent joint and bone damage, and kidney diseases. 

As per some research, high uric acid can also cause high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes and fatty liver problems. 

Risk Factors Related to Gout:

1.  Excess weight: If your body weight is more than the normal weight, then you are prone to develop a gout problem no matter what is your gender, this can happen to anyone who is obese.

2.  Medical reasons: People with heart, kidney and high blood pressure and metabolic syndrome are prone to develop high uric acid, which further leads to gout.

3.  Age: women are more prone to develop problems related to high uric acid after their menopause and men face such issues between the age of 30 to 50. 

4.  Gender: Men are more likely to develop high uric acids level compared to female because women have a low level of uric acid. However, females are prone to such issues after their menopause because, after menopause, the uric acid levels increase in the female body. 

5.  Family history: If someone in your family has a history of gout, that also puts you in a position where you are more likely to develop the same problem that your family person had, compared to others with no family history. 

6.  Diet: There are certain types of foods and drinks that are high in uric acid and if you consume such foods and drinks more often, you are prone to develop the risk of high uric acids. Foods that are high in purines, alcohol and fructose should be avoided at any cost or should be consumed to limit. 

How to Manage High Uric Levels?

High levels of uric acid are treated through medications with the help of a long-term program of disease management. You just need to consult a doctor instead of ignoring your problem because the high level of uric acids also causes kidney stones and once kidney stones occur, they needed to be removed from your system. 

Foods to Control High Uric Acid Levels:

1.  Lose excess weight.

2.  Foods and drinks that are high in purines like alcohol of all types, organ meat, red meat, seafood, meat gravies and venison. 

3.  Foods that are moderately high in purines like mushrooms, kidney beans, lentils, asparagus, spinach, wheat bran, dried peas, cauliflower, oatmeal, green peas, and beans.

4.  Foods that are low in purines like barley, eggs, all fruits, pasta, rice, tofu, vegetables, avocado and low-fat dairy products. 

5.  Tell your doctor about all the medications you are taking for any health problem because certain medications increase uric acid levels. 

6.  Try to reduce the consumption of sugary drinks and any type of alcohol. 

7.  As per some studies, coffee might be helpful to reduce the risk of gout, however, make sure you always consult your doctor before you make any changes to your diet and if your doctor allows only, then follow such things because everyone’s condition and the problem is different. 

8.  Consume foods that are low in purines levels, especially if you are suffering from high uric acids levels.9.  You should also consume vitamin–c-rich fruits and cherries are also great to prevent the risk of high uric acid levels.
