PCOD – Symptoms, Causes & Preventive Measures!

PCOD–This problem is one of the most complex and prevalent health problems among young girls and women. PCOD can happen because of various factors like biological factors, imbalance of hormones, lifestyle, foods choices, and hereditary. 

Polycystic ovary disease occurs among the age group of 12 to 45 years. Ovaries in a female body produce a small percentage of male hormones along with female sex hormones to regulate the development of eggs. 

When a female body starts producing more androgens (male hormones) than the required amount then this leads to the imbalance of hormones. When this happens, the eggs take the form of cysts instead of releasing. 

One question every girl wants to know is whether PCOD can be cured or not? We can control it with the help of diet, exercise, lifestyle changes and medications.

What you should eat in PCOD?

If you are suffering from PCOD and diabetes both then it is even more important to keep a check on your diet and have foods that help to maintain your blood sugar levels. 

1.  It is best to add seasonal green leafy vegetables, fruits, wholegrain and all essential nutrients to your diet. 

2.  Make sure you eat fewer calories and more nutrition if you are obese and suffering from PCOD because in this problem losing weight can be an enormous task. 

3.  It is even better to ask for a diet plan from your doctor or a nutritionist to know what you need to have to maintain PCOD.

Risk Factors Related to PCOD:

It is not necessary that every female who is suffering from PCOD will suffer from these risk factors, but these factors can occur. So, it is always better to be aware of the consequences. 

1.  Risk of breast cancer.

2.  Risk of infertility.

3.  Risk of endometrial cancer. 

4.  Risk of gaining weight along with high BP, diabetes and heart problems. 

But, you do not have to feel sad because of these risk factors you can live a normal life like other females, you just need to make some changes in your lifestyle. 

Preventive Measures to Control PCOD:

1.  Keeping blood sugar levels in control can e really helpful in the treatment of PCOD.

2.  People who suffer from diabetes should definitely work on keeping their sugar levels under control. 

3.  Controlling infertility to restore fertility is also helpful.

4.  Treatment of endometrial cancer and endometrial hyperplasia.

5.  Taking preventive steps, whether it’s medication, exercises or diet, to regulate your period cycles.  

6.  Try to maintain a healthy weight with the help of food and exercise. 

7.  You can also use medication to help you control PCOD along with the other lifestyle changes you need to make to maintain PCOD problems.8.  There are treatments like laparoscopic procedures to treat polycystic ovaries. This procedure is also known as ovarian drilling.
