5 Effective Home Remedies To Treat Knee Pain!

Knee pain can lead to various day-to-day problems like sitting, walking, even standing after sitting for a while becomes a task. 

Knee pain generally happens to old people, and the other things that can lead to knee pain are old injury, a sprain or osteoarthritis. 

This can hinder your day to day physical activities, and the constant pain can lead to stress as well. 

Knee pain occurs because of a lack of vital nutrients like iron, vitamin D and calcium. This could also happen because of excessive physical activities, natural wear and tear of tissues and muscles, and at last ageing. 

Therefore, today we will discuss some of the effective home remedies to treat knee pain. You do not have to buy anything from outside, because most of the ingredients are common in Indian kitchens. Also, you will get to know some tips to reduce knee pain.

Tips to Avoid Knee Pain: 

1.  Take rest and do not overdo anything that increases your knee pain. 

2.  Do not do heavy lifting or physical activities that put a strain on your knees 

3.  Try to prevent your injured body areas. 

4.  Try to protect painful areas. 

5.  While lying on a bed you can also use a pillow beneath your knee to give support. 

6.  Use ice packs on the areas that are causing pain and swelling. You can do this two to three times a day. 

7.  Do not consume alcohol, it is best to avoid it for at least 48 hours after your injury. 

8.  Many people like to use hot water for bathing, but if you are injured or there is some knee injury try to avoid hot showers or hot packs for at least 48 hours, post-injury. 

9.  You can also wrap a bandage around the injured knee to reduce the swelling. Make sure that the wrapping is not too tight else this will cause swelling, numbness, more pain and coolness. 

Effective Home Remedies to Treat Knee Pain:

1.      Tulsi:

Yes, tulsi is one of the best herbs that you should definitely have at home because of its powerful anti-rheumatic and antispasmodic properties. You can prepare a drink by using 3 to 4 fresh tulsi leaves. You need to boil these leaves for a while and then strain the tulsi infused water in a glass or cup and have it 2 to 3 times a day. This will be helpful to reduce your knee pain. 

2.      Ginger:

Many people like to add ginger to their tea because it just enhances its taste. You can have ginger tea or you can simply add ginger (crushed ginger) in some water and boil it for a while. Then you can add some honey (add when the water is bearable to drink) and squeeze half a slice of lemon. You can have this drink 2 times a day. The anti-inflammatory properties of ginger will be helpful to reduce knee pain and swelling. 

3.      Castor Oil:

This oil is an excellent home remedy to reduce knee pain or any type of joint pain. Castor oil is also mentioned in the ancient Ayurvedic manuscripts of Sushruta Samhita, Charaka Samhita. And, even in the ancient manuscripts, castor oil is effective to manage arthritis. Castor oil is also known as Eranda tailam in Sanskrit. The powerful anti-inflammatory properties and phytonutrients are effective to provide relief from pain and discomfort in the joints, bones and muscles. 

4.      Turmeric:

This is a popular herb that is used in a versatile way, to prepare dishes, home remedies and skin care products and homemade pastes for skincare. Turmeric contains a powerful anti-inflammatory chemical known as curcumin. And, the antioxidants in turmeric are also helpful to reduce knee pain and swelling. You can simply drink turmeric water to get the benefits of this amazing herb. Note: Turmeric has blood-thinning properties so avoid having turmeric every day. 

5.      Lemons:

A person who is suffering from arthritis should definitely add lemons to his/her diet because lemons are a great source of citric acids. And, citric acids are helpful to dissolve uric acid crystals in your systems. This will help to reduce the symptoms of arthritis.
